A luxury candle rewards a little care. These are the five things we'd ask you to do — they'll give you a cleaner burn, a stronger scent throw, and considerably more hours from every candle.
1. Let the first burn melt the full surface
The first time you burn your candle, light it long enough for the entire surface to melt. This ensures an even burn for the life of the candle. Aim for approximately one to two hours.
2. Burn in a well-ventilated room, away from drafts
Drafts make a candle burn unevenly and too quickly. After each burn, use a candle snuffer or blow the candle out.
3. Re-centre the wick before every lighting
A centred wick is the simplest way to keep the burn even and the wax pooling correctly.
4. Trim the wick once the candle has cooled
Once your candle has cooled, trim the wick — ideally with a wick trimmer, though you can also pinch off the excess with your fingers. Leave approximately 3–5mm of wick and remove the soot head from the previous burn. Keeping the wick at the correct length helps the candle burn evenly, prevents it burning too fast, and increases its throw — how well the scent fills a room.
5. Stop at 10mm of wax
Always stop burning your candle when approximately 10mm of wax is left, and never leave a lit candle unattended.
